The University of Delhi (DU) has suspended the online classes for both colleges and Departments till May 16. University has taken this decision while considering the requests from students of first years from various colleges like St. Stephens college, Hindu College, Hansraj College and Gargi College etc. who wrote to the vice-chancellor for suspension of the online classes due to pandemic.

Most of the students addressed the problem that either they are themselves suffering from the Pandemic or their family members are down with the Pandemic. So, in a nutshell the students raised the issues that they are not in a state to attend the online classes. Keeping in mind the current situation of the capital the University has suspended the online classes till May 16.

Just a few days back the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) too had raised the same concern. It is not just the students but also the teachers and staff of the university who is going through the tough times. The Registrar of the university Vikas Gupta, said that the classes of the 4th and 6th semester have already completed on April 29. It is just the classes of second semester students were remaining since their admissions were delayed last year due to pandemic. He also said that the problem is that it is mandated to complete the 180 days of teaching in an academic year. But now we don’t know when the peak of this pandemic will come as it is very unpredictable to say so and for this reason, we cannot keep things in suspension for very long, but how long will it go this way it’s hard to say at this point of time.

Students, teachers and principals of some colleges too have welcomed this decision because many teachers and staff too are down with the Pandemic and many has lost their lives too. The university teachers are positive that they will cover up the courses by extra classes if required.
