The Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal is likely to announce his decision anytime by today or tomorrow on whether the government is conducting the class 12th CBSE board examination this year 2021 or cancelling it due to the situation caused by the Pandemic. Education minister has said a few days back that the safety and future of the students is the top priority for the education minister. But decision on whether to conduct the examination or not or how to conduct it, is a big challenge for them as the class 12 board examination is an examination that “have an all-India Character,” because the admissions in all higher education institutes are based on the marks students score in class 12th board examination. So, it will be a big challenging decision for the government to take.
Many political leaders like Priyanka Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor have written to the education minister and Prime Minister for the cancellation of examinations. Whereas the CM of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackery has written to the Prime Minister for adopting a uniform decision that should be applicable for all states board examination. Students, teachers and many other people too on social media had requested for the cancellation of examination due the situation that popped up by the pandemic. If the government cancels the examination, then it has to come up with its “assessment criteria” based on which the students will be allotted marks and promoted from school education to higher education.
In a plea for cancellation of the examination the centre on Monday informed the Supreme court that they will take the decision within the next two days whether to conduct the examination or not. In a high-level meeting between the education ministers on 23rd of May, the ministers have said that there should be a consensual decision between all the states on conducting class 12th board examination. The decision of the education minister is likely to be announced anytime within the two days by today or tomorrow. So, the ‘long wait’ on this challenging decision is expected to be over soon now.
