The Ministry of Education has written a letter to all the central universities directing them to cancel all the offline exams which are scheduled for this month of May. However, the Ministry has allowed the central universities to conduct online or open book exams if required. The Ministry of Education has taken this step while keeping in mind the current situation of the Pandemic. In fact, students, teachers and Parents from all quarters are also tweeting and requesting the government to cancel all the exams this year.
Promoting the students to the next year by applying alternate methods of assessment will be a tough task for the universities, especially for the final year students. The examination for the final year students is a big question that is yet to be resolved by the universities. Parents, teachers and students are requesting that they should be promoted to the next year or their results should be released based on the alternate methods of assessment instead of conducting exams because students and in fact everyone is going through a tough time and stress caused due to the Pandemic.
In wake of the current situation many Universities like Delhi University (DU) and Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has already postponed their exams. However, Higher Education Secretary Mr Amit Khare said that the Ministry will review the situation in the first week of June then accordingly the Ministry will decide whether the universities should conduct the online exams or should pass the students by using alternate methods of assessment. The final decision is yet to come but for the time being most of the universities have deferred the examinations.
Now the Ministry has directed to all the central universities that no offline exams shall be conducted this month. The students of Aligarh Muslim University have also written to the Vice Chancellor of AMU to consider the safety of the students before conducting exams. Delhi University has postponed the examination but DU is all set to conduct online examinations for the Final year students.
